part plays the moving voice in the mid-range along with the third part on the bass tuba line. The first part for euphonium (can be played by an F tuba player with a good high register) plays the choral prelude melody on top in a beautiful legato line. This work gives all three tubists a real workout. The 2nd part plays the moving voice in the mid-range along with the third part on the bass tuba line. A beautiful motet for 2 Euphoniums and 2 Tubas. Mysterious and lyrical, this 5 minute work of Bruckner has been beautifully scored by Vancouver Opera tubist, David Sabourin. For moderately advanced players the highest note is a high Bb.
Jimbo's Lullaby is the second in a series of six pieces from Debussy's "Children's Corner Suite", originally for Piano. They are simple in style & light in character. The work is a depiction of a lullaby sung to a stuffed Elephant. This little gem of 3 1/2 minutes has been beautifully edited for advanced performers by Ralph Sauer for four Tubas (2 Euph's and 2 Tubas). The bottom part features a great "Elephant style" solo.
One of Sousa's greatest marches has been transcribed by David Sabourin of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. This wonderful transcription has been scored for Tuba Quartet of 2 Euphoniums and 2 Tubas.
You can't have any more fun "Low Down" than playing the "Tuba Blues". About 6 minutes in length for advanced performers. Euph 1 has an improvised solo and all the other parts get their share of the limelight in other ways. An optional drum kit part fills in for a wonderful character piece on your next concert.
Tuba players often can only dig into the music of J.S. Bach in brass quintets or some of the Stokowski or other transcriptions for orchestra or wind band. These 15 duets while advanced, make for excellent study materials that are every bit as musically rewarding as the Rochut/Bordogni etudes.
A small set of dances for two tubas. These duets are quite easy, but good tuneful music that offers a nice foray for a beginner into the world of tuba duets/chamber music.
O magnum mysterium by Tomas Luis de Victoria is one of my favorite pieces of choral music. The piece works well for 2 euphoniums and 2 tubas, three trombones and tuba, four tubas or trombone quartet. Intonation and steadiness of internal rhythm are paramount. Many thanks to Dr. Anne Heider of Roosevelt University to opening my eyes to this wonderful piece (among others!) of our musical history.
"The Dancing Giants" (Suite for Two Tubas) was written in 1995 to fill a void: the lack of tuba duets that people had fun playing AND people wouldn't mind LISTENING to! With movement titles like "Marching Tubas", "Waltzing Tubas", "Twinkling Tubas", "Tubas on the Sea", and "Tubas at the Circus", The Dancing Giants has a little something for everyone. The original version was written on hand made staff paper in blue ink. Fortunately, this version is much easier to read, but still just as fun to play and hear.
This wonderful duet combines a lush impressionistic piano setting with a very lovely and lyrical duet line paying homage to Asian cultures. Both parts are not overly demanding, but the first does contain a high c. This work is highly recommended and very appropriate for many performance venues.
One of the best known opera duets, the Flower Song from Lakme features a very lovely pairing of melodic lines for the two soloists alongside a very lovely accompaniment. A fantastic selection with tremendous versatility. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
This edition contains a variety of parts so that the duet can be performed with a number of different combinations…not just euphoniums: a B-flat treble clef (euphonium, trumpet, tenor sax, and clarinet); a bass clef (bassoon, trombone, and euphonium); and a C treble clef (flute).
Russian Sailors' Dance - R. Gliere/arr. Weaver & Randolph. A superb arrangement of the extremely well know tune from The Red Poppy. Scored for four euphoniums and three tubas, this work will prove a concert gem. Mr. Weaver, a graduate of the University of Georgia, captures the mood and style of the original magnificently with very idiomatic writing for all parts. This work deserves a place in any tuba-euphonium ensembles' library
